MINOT SKYROCKTS IN THE COMMUNITY

S.C.O.R.E. READING PROGRAM

On January 8, 2007 the Minot Skyrockets introduced a community outreach program that focuses on the importance of reading and education. Skyrockets Cheer On Reading and Education (SCORE) will bring Skyrockets players to area elementary schools. The players will read books to the children, discuss the importance of staying in school and getting a good education, and talk about the impact that reading and education has had on their lives.

“It is important for the players to become involved in the community, important for the community and the players. Several players have asked when they will be able to visit some schools, and they recognize that they are role models for children. They want to spend some time with the kids and give them a positive message about just how important education is,” said General Manager Kim Mueller.

The Skyrockets visited 11 area schools during the 2006-07 season, talking to over 3,000 elementary students in Minot. In 2007-08, the Skyrockets plan to extend the program to include all Minot elementary schools, Minot Air Force Base schools, and some surrounding communities such as Burlington and Surrey.

Area businesses can also become involved in the program through sponsorships and ticket donations. If your school or business would like to participate in the program, please contact the Skyrockets at 839-SLAM or send an email to Anna@MinotSkyrockets.com.
